Presentation by Prof. Dr. Christoph B. Bühler on "Risk Governance in Transition"

The conference focused on “Risk Management in Banking in Times of Transformation.” Banks’ risk management functions are currently facing a range of new and increasingly complex challenges. Legal risks are evolving, and the risk governance frameworks of financial institutions are undergoing significant change.

Non-financial risks are often difficult to anticipate, while technological developments require risk managers to develop innovative approaches to address emerging risks effectively. These include increasing regulatory requirements, anti-money laundering challenges, cyber risks, risks associated with artificial intelligence, and climate- and nature-related financial risks.

In this environment, not only adequate capitalisation and liquidity remain essential, but operational resilience and institutional robustness are becoming increasingly important. The conference explored the evolving expectations placed on banks and their governing bodies and examined practical approaches to strengthening risk management and governance in a rapidly changing regulatory and business environment.
